Following the murder of Bella Te Pania in Christchurch, Speak Up For Women, a New Zealand-wide feminist organisation, is calling on the government to conduct an overdue review of the impact on women and girls of the decriminalisation of prostitution.
A representative from the Ally Centre in Sydney reported sexual assaults involving prostituted women and that these recent stories ‘highlight a need for the decriminalization of the sex trade.’ Decriminalization is not the answer.
The Knesset plenum on Monday passed legislation to impose fines on anyone who pays for prostitution. The bill will also be accompanied by a rehabilitation plan for sex workers that will be approved soon by the government.

A prison sentence handed down today to 75-year-old former North Shore Community Board Chair Martin Lawes, for sustained child sexual exploitation of impoverished children in the Philippines, has been welcomed by child advocacy group Stop Demand.
New Zealand has once again been found to be a destination country for forced labour and sex trafficking, and a source country for sex trafficking of children.
The 2018 Trafficking in Persons (Tip) report, released by the US Department of State in Washington today, said foreign women from Asia and South America faced the risk of sex trafficking here, and some international students and temporary visa holders were vulnerable to forced labour and prostitution…

The Department of Justice today announced the arrest of more than 2,300 suspected online child sex offenders during a three-month, nationwide, operation conducted by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task forces. The task forces identified 195 offenders who either produced child pornography or committed child sexual abuse…
